Detox & Chill
The New Year is all about starting fresh. Out with the old, in with the new, so they say. So when Eugene from Green Point Juicery in Morristown reached out to me on NYE asking if I'd like to participate in a detox cleanse, I said HELL YES! What better way to start 2019 than completely free of any leftover toxins from 2018?!
I had never done a cleanse before. I didn't know what to expect or how my body would react. For this reason, Eugene suggested only a 1-day cleanse which he delivered to my door. Green Point offers delivery, I'm not that special...
The 1-day cleanse consists of 6 juices. All of Green Point's juices are raw, kosher and vegan. The six juices in my cleanse were:
Ultimate Detox Lemonade: Made with activated charcoal, ginger, lemon, cayenne pepper, maple syrup and r.o. filtered water.
Green Queen: Which contains apple, kiwi, spinach, cucumber and lemon.
Green Queen (same as above). I had two of these as part of my cleanse.
Gene's Favorite: Made up of kale, apple, parsley, celery, lemon, ginger and cucumber.
On the Beet: This one is filled with beet, carrot, chard, apple, lemon and turmeric.
Choco-Cashew Milk: Made with raw cashews, raw cacao, vanilla, dates, Himalayan salt and filtered water. (This was my favorite and literally tasted like the chocolate milk I used to drink while watching Saturday morning cartoons). Hi flashback.
I did this cleanse on New Year's Day. A bold move. I had definitely gone out the night before. Peep my last meal of 2018 here. And I definitely drank champagne. A lot of it. Hey, I'm being honest. But I didn't feel hungover. On Jan 1st I woke up did a 45 minute spin class and started my detox.
Juice #1 went down like water. It mostly was water. You can taste the charcoal and it has a little bit of a texture to it, but other than that it mostly tastes like drinking lemon water.
Juice #2. Another one down like a champ. At this point in my morning I'd have eaten something. So, when I opened my Green Queen I was excited to be drinking food. Remember this one contains apple, kiwi, spinach, cucumber and lemon.
Juice #3. Another Green Queen. I was confident about this one but enter nausea. A few sips in and started to not feel so hot. Actually, that's a lie. I felt very warm, clammy and thought I was going to puke. I didn't. But I did do some research and talk to Eugene and this is actually a pretty (unfortunately) normal feeling with a cleanse. The reasons vary, but to overcome this feeling Eugene recommends 1-2 spicy juices with ginger or cayenne to aid in digestion or doing a lemon ginger shot. This is also why Eugene recommended a 1-day cleanse so we could see how my body reacts and then custom tailor the next one. I want to really emphasize the fact the Green Point offers this customization. This is not something you will get with most cleanses. Not to mention, Eugene is a valuable, accessible resource who wants you to get the most out of your cleanse.
Pause for nausea.
Enter Juice 4. I had waited a little longer to start this one so the nausea could pass. It did. With this cleanse it is recommended to drink a juice every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I waited the full 2 hours before starting Gene's Favorite.
Thank you, next.
Juice #5. On the Beet was delicious and went down smooth. I personally love beet juice so this is probably why. But it also was a nice change from all the greens. At this point I started to feel really good and slightly energized.
Juice #6. AKA dessert. As I'm writing this blog I'm craving Green Point's Choco-Cashew Milk. This one was soo good that it felt like a cheat meal. It was the perfect way to end my cleanse.
January 2, 2019. New me, who dis? I woke up the next day feeling completely energized and my stomach felt flatter. (I did notice that around juice #3-4 I was looking bloated, this is also pretty normal with a cleanse). But the morning after, all that bloat was gone and I felt lighter.
Overall I'm happy I tried it and definitely recommend talking to Eugene if you are interested in a cleanse. He will customize a cleanse that is right for you. If you are interested, the cost of a 1-day cleanse is $55. A 3-day cleanse is $155 and if you mention ms.morristown you can save $15 off the 3-day! Any questions or comments reply below or DM me!
