My Experience: Cold is Cool
This post is about my recent experience getting Whole Body Cryotherapy at Renew Cryotherapy in Morristown, NJ
I have never done Cryo before and knew very little about how it worked or its health benefits. My full-time career is within the field of dermatology so I have seen Cryo used, but only locally to treat a variety of skin issues. When I saw that Renew was coming to Morristown, I knew it was something I had to learn more about and of course try out.
So last Friday, I met with one of the owners, Gianna Giacona, to check out Renew before they officially open on June 21, 2018.
As Gianna showed me the newly constructed space, which was formerly Rita's Water Ice. (PS. Anyone else see the humor in this?) Hint: Both businesses deal with the cold... Anyways, I learned that Renew does'nt just offer Whole Body Crytherapy, they also provide:
Localaized Cryo Treatments
I decided to try the Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC). According to Renew's website, some of the benefits of Whole Body Cryotherapy include:
(See their website for full list of benefits)
After learning all this, I was super excited to try it out, and curious to see just how cold it would be.
After taking off all my jewelry and changing into a super fluffy robe (you keep your bra and underwear on), I was then instructed to put on knee high socks and clogs and also special mittens to protect my extremities. Then into the tank I went.
The maximum amount of time you can go in is only three minutes. However, your first time you are only allowed a minute and a half and then you eventually work up to the three minute max. This sounds like a very short time but at -130 degrees Celsius trust me it's long enough!
Once inside, you are elevated up so that your head and shoulders are out and not in contact with the cold. Liquid Nitrogen is used to make the cold gas but you are not in direct contact with it and you don't get wet, unlike I originally thought!
Once the timer started it was cold! But not unbearable. And right before I really started to feel like it was getting to be too much...it was over... and I instantly felt an energy boost!
Informally known as "cryo-high," enhanced energy is a benefit of WBC that I can personally attest to. Right before I visited Renew I purchased a black, iced coffee with a shot of espresso from Starbucks. I was exhausted, but after only a minute and a half of Cryo I no longer needed the caffeine! After my time was up, I changed back into my clothes and went back to work. It was amazing and for this feeling alone I will try WBC again!
I also want to try their Cryofacial and Infrared Sauna so stay tuned! In the meantime, head to their website: http://www.renewcryobodymind.com/ and ask about their BUY ONE GET ONE OFFER!* limited time only!
