Find your MUSE.
Looking for something fun AND educational to do in Morristown? Have you checked out the Morris Museum? CONFESSION: I have lived in Morristown for nearly a decade and just this month went to the museum for the first time…
It’s one of those things that have been on my to-do list for way too long. But when I found out there was going to be a Gem and Fossil Show I knew I had to get there. My first reaction as I walked in was WOW.
Admission for that day was only $5 because of the show, normally it is $10 (which is more than a fair price, I honestly thought it would be more). Also that $10 gets you access to every exhibit! Check out their website for full pricing including discounts for kids and active military personnel.
My first stop was to check out the gems. Visit my Insta page ms.morristown to see some pics. After I watched a live wire-wrapping of a gem necklace, it was time to explore the rest of the museum.
Going on during my visit was an exhibit entitled The Voices of our Veterans: Combat Paper NJ, which features stories told by veterans through the art of paper making. Veterans across the USA turn personal or donated uniforms into paper and then art as part of a creative, therapeutic process.
Next stop: Full Steam Ahead! Model Trains and Railroads. This was a super interactive exhibit that I spent an almost an hour visiting. It included numerous live train sets and real life vintage train collectibles including ticket punches, oil lamps and more.
My challenge to readers and future museum visitors, is to participate in the scavenger hunt! Good luck!
Other exhibits I toured during my visit included: Military
Uniforms: The Evolution of Military Fashion, Murtogh’s Music Room, The Dinosaur Den, American Indian, Mammals, and Rocks and Minerals. (How could I skip out on the last one having gone there for the gem show).
A number of these collections are museum staples:
  • Mechanical Music
  • Dinosaur Den
  • Mammals
  • Rocks and Minerals
  • American Indian
  • The Dodge Room
Check out their website to find out what future exhibits are coming to the museum.
